I have never been to “Nawlins.” One of my travel buddies, (Carolyn) who went on the 6th Annual My May Cruise, suggested perhaps we start looking at US destinations and she suggested New Orleans. Well, since I had never been I agreed; thus, the 7 day cruise for
May 15 – May 22, 2016 AND the 4 nights discovering New Orleans, AKA Nawlins.
I must tell you, Leslie from the New Orleans tourist board is FANTASTIC! She has sent me 2 packets of information with brochures of different areas and plenty of things to do. She also has referred my trip out to a lot of vendors for NOLA (New Orleans, Louisiana). I have been inundated with emails from many companies – hotels, transportation, tours and things to do. It has been a great help. I had already spent D A Y S online checking out what NOLA has to offer. WOW! It seems the “Nawlings” is the Las Vegas of the South. LOTS of things to do ALL NIGHT LONG!! I love it. I just like having the options to get out all night long. I may only make half a night but it sure makes for good conversation just to know I could be out all night every night.
One stumbling block is the cost of hotels. They are EXPENSIVE, much like Las Vegas. BUT, UNLIKE Las Vegas they don’t give up a lot of accommodation deals. So far, all the areas that are “in the happening spots” start over $155 for Wed. & Thurs and $255 for Fri. and Sat. PLUS the tax rate at 13.75% AND $1-2 dollars hotel tax per night. I can live with the $155 but, a $100 jump for the weekend nights????? We have to fly to New Orleans, pay for at least one overnight before the cruise and pay for the cruise. I would like to have some money for excursions, sightseeing and food. AND, I need money to get back home once I reach the west coast. another one of my travel buddies, Pamela, who is from “Nawlins” suggested the Clarion on Canal St. I called them and they are on the streetcar line and across the street from the hop-n/hop-off bus. So far sounds ok but, I need more information. I AM OPEN TO SUGGESTIONS1.
Maybe we have 2 hotesl(?) Some people don’t want to go on the cruise but want to discover New Orleans. so , maybe they are willing to pay $293 or more per night. Let me know what your budget can stand.
Gotta go. More research.
Ciao,
Marsha A-GoGo.
