I JUST got a telephone call from a client who is LOVING me for insisting she get travel insurance. She is over 60 years old and in fairly good health. I suggest travel insurance to ALL my clients. Only a few actually get it. I am over 60 years old and have entered the “good days, bad days” era – not knowing from day to day what shape I will be in when I wake up each morning. I truly urge my over 6o clients to get the insurance. Well, this client – for the sake of this article, I will call Sarah. We were going on a 3 day cruise to Nassau – a fun casino cruise. Sarah did’t think she would need insurance because “we are only going for 3 days”. I still encouraged her with my “what if” stories and I’m always saying “can you afford to pay for a trip and not go?” Well, she relented and got travel insurance. THANK GOD!
On the last night of the cruise she was walking back to her cabin from the lido deck and BLAM – she fell. She doesn’t recall anything being in her way to make her fall, she just knew out of no where she was kissing the deck. She text me to say she was the first one off the ship via ambulance. Like WTF???? She was taken to a Miami hospital, spent the night in ER and 2 more days in the hospital. Obviously, she missed he flight home along with her travel companion, who chose to stay with her. Sarah has Kaiser but, because she was out of a Kaiser benefit area she had to pay a BUNCH of out of pocket costs. She didn’t even realize the travel insurance she bought from my website would cover any of the cost. She thought it was just for cancellation and/or interruption. I told her to call the insurance company right away and put in a claim. She did. Sarah’s call tonight was to tell me she received nearly $50,000.00 to cover all her costs. Talking about elated!!! I am so happy for her AND in less than 4 months.
Sarah is fortunate to have gotten the insurance. Sarah is also diligent about making sure all the claim form requirements were turned in timely. hint, hint. Just another reason to purchase travel insurance.
